Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time it's enemy action
-Ian Fleming
This torture 'debate' can't seem to address the very most basic elements of what happened. The guys who were tortured are brown. The guys doing the torturing are white. Do the math. If a brown person abuses a white person, it's cause for War. If the reverse happens, it's just a few bad apples acting out, who might get a slap on the wrist if there's anyone looking.
Another essential element, that I can't afford to forget these days, is that it's not what they did or what they knew that justified the torture, not really. It's who they are.

After the umpteenth stupid, disgusting, random little disaster just now, I have to remind myself that as tempting as it might be to invent things, any sort of things, to make this stop... that power is an illusion. It can't be stopped. The white folks at Gitmo couldn't stop themselves, no matter how good (or bad) the intel. And the happenstance, coincidence, enemy action that I keep bumbling into every day, that's not something that can stop as a result of anything I do. It's not happening because of anything I did.
